Parklife
Oof's proposal for a public seating bench for the city of Athens in Greece.
Parklife provides the ideal context for reading a good book, sharing a special moment with a loved one or just taking a break in the city to relax and recoup some energy. Its main feature is a laser cut stainless steel sheet which bends forming armrests and a backrest. The flowing shape supports wooden slats which create a comfortable, elegant and inviting seating arrangement. The seemingly irregular cuts on the steel sheet give loose reference to the diverse and chaotic Athenian urban landscape and relate to its current street furniture. At the same time they contrast the painted hardwood slats that will age with time giving a warmer character to the seat. Hardwood will be locally sourced and FSC certified while steel should have a high recycled content helping to make production environmentally conscious. It will be possible for anyone to sponsor a commemorative seat. Parklife is a timeless piece of urban furniture with a contemporary character, reinforcing local distinctiveness and improving the quality of public life for all Athenians.
